Esther Barrazzone – Member

Esther Barazzone PhD was nominated to serve on the ICA Board by Rep. Frank Dermody. Dr. Barazzone is President and Professor Emerita of Chatham University where she served for 24 years as president, leading the revitalization and transformation of the institution financially, programmatically, and in reputation. One of her most significant accomplishments was the receipt and creation of the Eden Hall Campus, the only fully sustainable campus in the world, as well as the Falk School of Sustainability.

During her tenure at Chatham, Dr. Barazzone was very engaged in public service, serving on local and national boards, including such organizations as the Allegheny Conference, UPMC, The Carnegie Museums and the Museum of Natural History, Dollar Bank and the Benedum Foundation. She also served as the Chair of AICUP, the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania. Nationally, she served on the Advisory Committee for the Fulbright Scholars program, as well as the Executive Committee for CIC, the Consortium for Independent Colleges. She has received many honors and awards, among them selection as a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Barazzone holds a PhD and Masters degrees from Columbia University, was a Fulbright Student to Spain, and a Bachelor’s degree from New College in Sarasota, Florida. She was a Fellow of the Faculty and National Defense Education Act fellow at Columbia University.
